Ajepako or Ajebota: the birth lottery

The birth lottery is step four of character creation. It deals one of two starts: Ajepako (82% of draws), who begins on a ₦45,000 loan with tougher skills, or Ajebota (18%), who gets ₦420,000 from the family and a head start at work. It is drawn once per account and cannot be re-rolled.

How the draw works

After you choose your look, traits and dream, the fourth step, Fate draw, shuffles a card and flips it. The result is decided on our server, not in your browser, and stored on your account the moment it is drawn. Then Go house hunting takes you to the last step, where your draw decides which homes you can pick and how much money you start with.

The fate draw showing the Ajepako card: a Kolanut Loans advance and skills that grow faster.

The odds are fixed: 82% Ajepako, 18% Ajebota. The names are Lagos slang: the kid who grew up tough and the kid who grew up soft.

The two starts

Ajepako · 82%

“Nobody dash you anything. You will collect it yourself.”

  • Start with a ₦45,000 Kolanut Loans advance, paid back at ₦6,500 a week
  • Already handy: Hustle and Fitness start at level 1
  • Hard times taught you fast: skills grow 20% quicker
  • Your first room is in Agege or Dopemu. GRA is a long way off

Ajebota · 18%

“You have never queued for anything in your life.”

  • Your parents send ₦420,000 to settle you
  • They also pay the rent on the Ogba mini-flat, if you take it
  • An uncle put in a word: your first job starts at level 2
  • No loan to repay

These are the exact lines on the card in the game.

The Ajepako loan, in numbers

The lender is Kolanut Loans, a made-up Agege moneylender. You receive ₦45,000 when you move in and pay back ₦52,000: ₦6,500 every Saturday at 9 AM, for 8 weeks. That is ₦7,000 more than you borrowed, a flat 16% on top.

The loan repayment schedule, week by week
SaturdayYou payStill owed after
1₦6,500₦45,500
2₦6,500₦39,000
3₦6,500₦32,500

5₦6,500₦19,500
6₦6,500₦13,000
7₦6,500₦6,500
8₦6,500₦0
  • The first instalment is taken on the first Saturday at 9 AM after you move in, together with your rent.
  • It is automatic. If your wallet holds enough, it is paid. Nothing to press.
  • You can pay ahead. The Bank's loan card has Repay ₦6,500 and Clear the loan. Paying ahead ends the loan sooner; it does not lower the total.
  • If you cannot pay, the instalment waits as an unpaid bill. Settle it from the Bank with Settle my bills. Unpaid rent is the dangerous one: two weeks of it moves you to the cheapest room.

Ajepako: which first home?

The Mini-flat in Ogba is locked to you at creation. Of the two you can pick, the bigger room comes with a bigger starting allowance. Here is how each looks over the 8 loan weeks, before you earn a single naira:

The Ajepako home choice over the loan weeks
HomeRoomStart withRent, 8 weeksBills a weekLeft without income
Face-me-I-face-you · Agege Market6×6₦63,500₦15,200₦8,400−₦3,700
Self-contain · Dopemu7×7₦78,500₦38,400₦11,300−₦11,900

“Bills a week” is rent plus the instalment. The lowest level-1 shift in the game pays ₦8,700, so the weekly bills take 1 shift (Face-me-I-face-you) or 2 shifts (Self-contain) to cover. Either way, a job is not optional. The cheaper room is the safer start; the self-contain suits a player who will log in every day and wants the larger room and the extra cash up front.

Ajebota: what the head start is worth

₦420,000 is a large sum this early, and there is no loan. On top of that, two things keep paying:

The rent

Choose the Mini-flat in Ogba and your parents pay its ₦13,600 weekly rent. The Bank shows “Papa covers your rent 👑”. That is ₦54,400 every four weeks you do not spend. The help ends the moment you move through the Houses app, and it does not come back.

The job

Every job you join starts at level 2. Per shift, against a level-1 start:

“A full week” means a shift on every workday of that career. Pay before tax; weekly tax only starts above ₦400,000.

Ajepako: what the skills are worth

Ajepako starts with Hustle 1 and Fitness 1 and learns every skill 20% faster. Promotion to level 3 in any career needs its skill at level 3 (300 XP). A full shift gives 40 skill XP before task bonuses, so counting shifts alone and no traits:

Shifts needed to reach the skill level for a level-3 job
WhoFull shifts to skill 3
Ajebota8
Ajepako7
Ajepako in Trading (starts with Hustle 1)5

Trading uses Hustle, so an Ajepako trader already meets the skill needed for level 2 on day one: fill performance to 100% and the promotion is there. A trait that boosts the same skill stacks with the background bonus, and skill-training actions add XP on top; see jobs and skills.

How to play Ajepako well

  1. Pick the cheaper room unless you will play daily.
  2. Take a job on day one. Trading, with the Hustle head start, is the quickest first promotion.
  3. Use gigs (10 a day) to cover the weekly bills while your wage is still level 1.
  4. Keep one week of bills in the wallet before each Saturday. Never let rent go unpaid twice.
  5. Do not rush the loan. It costs the same either way; spend spare cash on things that earn first.
  6. Pick a trait that matches your job's skill: with the background bonus, your promotions come fastest of anyone.

How to play Ajebota well

  1. Take the Mini-flat unless you have a reason not to. Free rent is worth more the longer you stay.
  2. Do not burn the gift on furniture. ₦420,000 is enough to buy any one of 3 businesses outright (🔌 Phone Charging Spot, 🍞 Bread & Butter Table, 💧 Pure Water Round), and a business pays every evening. See businesses for payback times.
  3. Before moving up to the Two-bedroom flat (move-in ₦144,000, then ₦48,000 a week), remember you give up the free rent for good.
  4. Your level-2 start is in every career, so trying a different job costs you less.
  5. Your skills start at zero. Work the skill your job needs, or the next promotion will wait for it.

Can you re-roll?

No. The card is stored on your account the first time it is drawn, and every later request returns the same result. Going back a step does not redraw it. Fresh start (on the welcome card or in Settings) retires your person and lets you make a new one, but the game says it plainly: your fate card and your @name do not change.

One person, one account.Opening extra accounts to fish for Ajebota is against the Terms. Play the card you get; both starts can reach every dream.

Questions

Can I re-roll the birth lottery?

No. It is drawn once per account on our server. Going back a step, closing the tab or starting a fresh life all give you the same card.

Is Ajepako a bad draw?

No. Ajepako starts with a loan, but also with two skills at level 1 and 20% faster skill growth for life. The money gap closes; the skill speed never runs out.

Does paying the loan early save money?

No. You pay back ₦52,000 whether you take the full 8 weeks or clear it on day one. Paying early only frees up your weekly budget sooner.

What happens if I cannot pay an instalment?

It waits in the Bank as an unpaid bill until you settle it. Unlike rent, an unpaid loan instalment does not get you moved out of your home.

Do my parents keep paying the rent if I move?

No. Their help covers the Mini-flat you chose at creation. Move anywhere through the Houses app and you pay rent yourself from then on, even if you later move back.

Can an Ajepako ever live in the Mini-flat?

Yes. It is only locked at creation. Once you can afford the move-in of ₦40,800, the Houses app lets you move there like anyone else.

Do the two starts play differently after the first weeks?

Mostly no. Jobs, gigs, homes and businesses are the same for everyone. What stays different for good is Ajepako's faster skill growth and Ajebota's higher starting level in every new job.
